Accord ignition pickup ignitor
Is purchasing a new distributor the only way to purchase the ignitor module? I'd like to replace the one on my 1998 Accord but don't want to purchase the complete distributor.

Actually after shopping many parts stores and talking to some knowledgeable people, I found the igniter isn't available as a separate purchase item, like the coil or ICM. To purchase a new igniter one has to purchase the distributor; new or reman.

On your 1998, the ignition control module (ICM) is also known as the igniter. Also see this link, "The system uses sensors to trigger the igniter (aka, ignition control module, ignitor or ICM) ..."

On earlier Accords, e.g., 1989, there was a distributor ignition pickup (breaker plate type), "http://www.dealerdirectparts.com/1989-HONDA-ACCORD-DX-Distributor-Ignition-p/honda-3369346-accord-dx-4.htm" which would correspond to the part illustration attached.

I believe the ICM is different than the igniter. Yes, I've heard the names used interchangeably by some people. Ok if that is true then what is the magnetic pickup electronic module called? This is the item I'm referring and can't be purchased separately except with a distributor. When the ICM is replaced, if the triggering mechanism is bad the still no spark. I can find this item for my 85 Bronco II but can't find it as a separate item for the Accord.... so maybe they do know of what they speak.
