Default Another speedo ?

I know this has been talked about a million times but what is one more gonna hurt. I did a search and didnt find what i was looking for...so here we go.

I have a 96 lx and the speedo isnt working. I tried a new VSS and that didnt help. Is there a ground or something i could check? Also is there an inexpensive scan tool i can buy for the accord?

Thanks in advance

speedo going out is apparently a semi common issue on the 94-97 accords.... my 94 accord speedo went out at 135,000

the only thing that doesnt make sense to me is that it isnt throwing any codes. After i installed the new VSS i disconnected the battery for a few minutes to get rid of any codes that could have been stored and then i drove it and the speedo still isnt working and no codes came up either. I'm stumped.

I don't know off the top of my head the easiest way to test a speedo. you could try pulling the dash and making sure it's all connected.... I don't know (that's probalby the wrong way to go about it *LOL*) I do know that it's a common issue though...

You are correct MR- NASTY that is the wrong way to go about it, even if you have to chk the wiring to the gauge , there is no need to pull out the dash, just the instrument cluster ,,

take a look at that link that deserthonda posted... super simple troubleshooting steps... view the flowchart halfway down the page... my guess would be that based on the wiring setup if your cruise works then your speed sensor is fine.... I'll place money on the gauge... do the steps.
