Any opinions on Valvoline Synthetic
#2
I have used 5w-40 version of it in my VW for years. Never have had any problems with the engine. I can't find tha grade on local stores anymore so had to switch to a different brand.
It's a good oil, but I never pushed it passed 7,500 miles change interval.
What engine do you have, what is your driving conditions (stop and go/highway)?

I think you'll be fine. I used Valvoline SynBlend for a while and that oil got good reviews. But, at only $4 cheaper than Mobil1, why not stick with Mobil1 if that's what you're running now. And don't use Fram filters please.

Just for reference I have been using Mobil1 5W30 exclusively in the accord, but I think I am ready to try something different like Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 to see if it could make the drive train noise go down a bit!

It wont. My humble opinion is that Mobil 1 is about the best synthetic on the market. I owned a Suzuki Samurai several years ago and it was a perfect test bed because it only had 66 horsepower so the effect of every little tweak was instantly noticeable. When I started using Mobil 1 my engine temp dropped drastically and my gaas mileage increased a bit.
I know this is anecdotal and not exactly a scientific test, but it won me over.
That being said, I believe that all the major synthetics will pretty much equal. I doubt youd ever see the difference between them unless you were planning on driving your car for 500,000 miles!
