Default Auto Headlight Setting

2011 Accord Coupe here. With my headlight switch on “Auto”, the dashboard light for headlights is on, even during the day in bright light. I know I have daytime running lights, but the windshield is tinted as I bought it used.

Is this normal, and if not, could the tint be messing with the ambient light sensor? Thanks!

The tint could be messing with the sensor. I'm not sure how you can verify if DRL or the auto lights are enabled. DRL typically uses lower power to the bulbs (I think). Take a look in the owner's manual to see how the gauge signals the drl and the nighttime lights are indicated.

Pay attention to the instrument cluster lights as well, because they should also turn on when the auto headlights activates.

You could also shine a flashlight on the sensor from outside the car to see how the cluster behaves.
