Default Balance shaft belt question

I have a 97 Accord ex with the f22b1 2.2 vtec. I'm fixing to do the timing belt. I'm curious is the balance shaft belt needed? I read it can run without it but is the balance shaft belt what drives the oil pump or is that the main timing camshaft belt

The balance shaft balances acts as a counterweight when the pistons are moving and prevents the engine from shaking. There is no reason to not install the balance shaft belt. Not installing the belt will cause the engine to shake more.

I am 99% sure the oil pump is driven by the crankshaft.

Just install the balancer belt and you will have no worries.
