Default Ball joint replacement 1993

Is there a special tool required for changing lower ball joints on a 93 Accord?

Not too "special". I usually use a small gear-puller. Some people use a "pickle-fork" type of BJ separator, but those usually tear up the rubber boot.

This belongs in General Tech, so I'll move it.

Thank you for the info. Any tips on how to do it, or is it self explanitory? Also, what does &amp mean?

I'm not sure what you are talking about with the &amp.

To replace the ball joint, you will have to pull the entire knuckle. The ball joint separator is used to get the lower ball joint out of the lower control arm. I like the Pitman Puller (Gear puller), because it will not damage the rubber boot for the tie-rod end. You can rent that at places like autozone.

To remove the ball joint from the knuckle, I hammered out the old ball joint using a heavy hammer with a large socket over the ball joint. I secured the knuckle by bolting it on to the wrong side of my spare tire using the lug nuts.

I was able to get the new ball joint in by using the ball joint press that you can rent at autozone as well.

If it sounds like too much work (it wasn't very simple to do), then you can take the entire knuckle with the new ball joint to a machine shop and have them do it. It shouldn't be more than $30.
