Default Brake Lamp Monitor

Hi all. I have a 1999 Hond Accord 2-dr v6, and I noticed the brake lamp monitor light came on today (the one under the lights that show you if a door is ajar), but when I laid my laptop case on the brake pedal and went around back, all brake lights appear to be working. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Daniel

Take ALL the bulbs out & clean the contacts & put them back. Make sure the contacts are springy & snug & clean.

That warning is based on the electric current being different from side-to-side. So if one lamp has dirty contacts, it may still light up but doesn't match the resistance of the other side.

Sometimes all it takes is replacing a bulb with the wrong wattage. That makes the current different right there.

That sensor is pretty sensitive. I've heard of people finally (out of desparation) replacing all the bulbs just so they all match perfectly.

Good info, thanks. Basically though, there's no harm in leaving this light on, right?

I agree that's the one.

I went through this exact thing two weeks ago.

All of the brake lights were on on the rear of the car, but it was the one inside the center-bottom of the back window that was indeed burned out.

We replaced that lamp ($8!!) and, sure enough, the brake lamp monitor light disappeared.

Good luck.

Is there more than one bulb on the 3rd brake light (the one inside the car behind the window)? Because it was lit up, but maybe there's more than one bulb. My sub could have rattled something loose back there...been playing music loud lately. :-/
