Default Broke my Schrader valve on AC trying to save a $

I hooked up manifold gauges to the AC on my 2007 Accord EX 4-Cyl. When I took off low side, it was spewing.

I definately am low now on R134

Anyway, drove to Honda, caught a tech outside. He grabbed a tool and said Schrader valve was tight like it should be, so it must be broke.

He went with me to parts to see if valve could be ordered, but can't and have to order whole line.

New line, labor, evac and recharge about $430.

Here's my question, that still doesn't mean valve itself can't be changed.

If I broke valve using to much force installing manifold gauges, is it likely I can still simply replace that valve?

I don't mind buying line to get the valve, the line was about $55.

Any help now greatly appreciated. I know I shouldn't have screwed with it, just broke right now (unemployed) and this makes it even worse.

Thank you in advance.

I haven't actullay sold parts in a long time, 07 too new for me to know for sure. I always knew the "schrader" part of the valve to be replaceable. They can be tight but still allow pressure to get out. If is just the part under the "cap" that is leaking. They are much like the valves for you tires.
I'd have to let someone with more knowledge on newer models answer for sure. Even if the schrader is bad, it will need to be replaced, system vac'd, hold vac then recharged.

just replace the valve.........evacuate the system so it is empty of freon, remove the valve ( you can get 1 at any parts store) make sure that you tell them that it is for a r134a system ,,valve is about 1-3 dollars ,,,,,,,,,replace the valve, put system under vacc and then recharge system

also try something,,,,,,get some small needle nose pliers and pull up on the center of the valve gently,, it might re-seat itself and leaks stops , i have done it numerous times that way and has worked ,,Ehy you got nothing to lose ..

If you remove the manifold gauge set without turning the **** counterclockwise on a 134A system it will spew Freon as the valve is still pressed down. Did it stop leaking Freon after a few seconds? if so you just need to recharge it.

It didn't stop leaking until it ran out. Honda mechanic felt confident valve was broke.

The first time I recharged a 134A system with a gauge setup I pulled the quick disconnect without releasing the valve and Freon went everywhere for a few seconds so I figured I should ask.

deserthonda has you covered.

I have experienced the same problem and have been unable to locate the valve core. Every parts place (Including Honda) tells me that I will have to replace the whole line and it is a dealer only item. I would have thought a replacement could be easily found but not so. If Deserthonda knows where they can be purchased, please let us know. I previously did the same procedure Deserthonda described with needle nose pliers, which did stop the leak, but I would still desire to replace the Schrader valve core if I experience the problem again. I removed the Schrader valve core there is nothing unique about it except locating one.

I bought some parts from the ackits site. Google ackits and their site is the first hit.

They are based out of Phoenix and specialize in a/c repair. Give them a call and see if they have a replacement valve. Let us know what you find out.
