Default Cam toasted cylinder head

1995 Accord Lx

In midst of head gasket change.....

Removed cylinder head. Took it to a Shop for inspection and preparation.
During inspection, it failed. Cam bearings got hot. They are "grooved".
Also grooved the head. Both toast.

So now I am researching cylinder heads....

Engine... F22B2
Cylinder Head POB-5 or POB HA-5

Is that zero? Or the letter "O" ?

I have done a little digging.... It seems the F22B2 "generally matches to a
POA-5. Am I missing something? I have not found the "POB" yet.
Did someone replace the head already?????

Also... Is $65 bucks a decent price for a head gasket. (felpro) That seems to be the going rate at the local Auto stores..... I ask, cause if you get on the net you see some crazy prices of $13, or $25 and $60 ish. Advance Auto could get me one for $33. He had one that was 65 in stock.

I figure you get what you pay for... If you don't believe that just read my previous post..... ha ha

If someone could learn me in honda cylinder heads, well thank you.

If you need more info please ask. I have little history on the car. We only drove her bout 20 miles before she petered out.

Well.... The moderator with the Steeler logo helped me clear up I did not have vtec. Vtec not on valve cover...plus I guess the F22B2 is not vtec.

I have found some "POB" cylinder heads. Not many. Very few.

I just remembered 1 more thing the guy at the head shop told me...
The "POB" is important, but he said that "5" was MOST important.

Don't quote me, but I believe he said he had some good POB-7 (Yes, Seven) cylinder heads
in his shop. He told me they were not interchangeable. Something to do w/ intake size.....Fuel delivery?????

So if you look on the net for these heads NO ONE advertises the # after the POA or POB. Which, my guy, says is critical.

What is up w/ that???? jhk

Try www.car-part.com for loacal, used parts. I've never seen anyone list them as P0A or P0B heads... That shop sounds like bad news, there were 2 4cyl. engines offered from 94-97, the F22B1 (VTEC) and the F22B2 (non-VTEC), as far as I know the respective heads are identical to each other.

You're gonna need more than just the head gasket...

I just did a F23A1 head gasket (your engines brother) and I bought:

(All Honda)
- headgasket
- head bolts
- intake manifold gasket
- exhaust manifold gasket
- timing belt
- timing belt tensioner
- balancer belt
- balancer belt tensioner
- maybe missing one or two things

Parts came up to about $280.
