Default Car not starting and stuck in parking

Hi,

I have a Honda Accord 2000 SE. Today in the morning I tried to start my car but it won't start. In addition in is stuck in parking gear. I found some broken pieces of plastics below my steeering wheel which seem like brake pedal stop gasket. So I looked underneeth where the barke pedal connects to the brake switch and I see it making contact. I reckon I will need to replace the stopper

. So I have a couple of questions

1. Could the battery be dead as I read somewhere that it controls the. brake light?
2. How can i manually replace it?

Thanks

Are your brake lights on at all times right now or are they off?

Replacing the stopper is easy. Buy the part and push the clip part into the hole where the brake pedal switch makes contact.

brake lights are off but I am not sure whether they are off because they were on all throughout the night and the battery got drained. Btw I bypassed the transmission, pressed the brake and tried to start and it did not turn on. Shouldn't this have started the car once?
After I replace the stopper, how will I know whether it worked?

Try pressing on the brake pedal with the car off. If the brake lights don't work, then try pushing the brake pedal switch in to see if the brake lights turn on.

You can also use your key to release the gear selector to neutral. You should be able to start your car when in neutral.

None of them made the car start. I suppose the brake light stayed on the whole night and drained the battery.

Just curious, was there any other way, e.g. dashboard etc., i could have figured out that the brake switch was broken? This is such a bummer if i park, walk ahead of the car and figure out that my battery died.

If the stopper broke, then the brake pedal switch should stay open and not turn on the brake lights.

There are two types of no-starts, crank/no-start, or no-crank/no-start. Which one are you experiencing? See youtube video below.

What did you do to bypass the transmission?

Any other previous work on the car before this happened?

Did the brake lights work when you pushed the brake pedal switch by hand?

What did you do to bypass the transmission? - by using the switch at the side of the transmission. Tried cranking in neutral but still nothing happened

Any other previous work on the car before this happened? - had a front tire replaced more than a month back

Did the brake lights work when you pushed the brake pedal switch by hand? - No. Am i supposed to just push the switch in or press the switch in and then push the pedal as well simultaneously?

If you have no power when you turn the key like no dash lights turn on, then you need to first check the battery. If you turn on the headlights like in that video, do they turn on?

Do you have a battery charger or jumper cables?

Headlights are not coming up. I had installed a new battery 3 months back. I have jumper cables but no extra battery to connect them to

Do you have a volt meter to try some electrical tests?
