Default CEL on with no codes...

Hi, can any one please help me with the following issue. I have accord 98 2.3 and its CEL is on for 2 weeks or so. I tried taking the batteries wire off however, the cel did not disappear when I put them back on... I took the car to auto zone who checked for any error codes but it did not return any... any idea what can be the problem and what to do... thanks!

Did Autozone reset ECM? Most won't do this. I'm not sure if you can reset ECM w/ battery removal. I've also seen some auto parts stores scanners that would not read codes, probably damaged pins. Suggest trying another auto parts store before getting too serious w/ other options; ECM replacement for instance.

good luck

On 1998 you CAN reset by disconnecting the battery. Non-volatile memory started in 2003 (for USA Accords)

Most of the time, resetting won't make the CEL stay away. As soon as you start the engine and the ECU figures out that the problem isn't fixed, the light comes right back on.

Would disconnecting the battery (to fit a new one) activate the CEL? -'94 4 cyl Accord

It shouldn't. That would clear the ECU on a 94 accord.
