Default CEL pops intermittently

I drive a 94 LX. I replaced the radiator a few days ago, now the CEL pops on while I'm driving occasionally. I had the intake removed because the filter was sucking water, and I attached the filter directly to the manifold. now that the cold air intake is back on it continues to pop up. the engine pulls fine when the light is on but it idles slightly rougher. Any ideas?

Check for codes. See DIY forum for instructions on obd1 codes. This should provide a clue to the problem.

good luck

That's the thing, I don't have a reader and I work until 10.30, so I was looking for any kind of idea as to what the problem could be before I went to pull the codes tomorrow

I moved your help question to the General Tech Help section.

You can retrieve trouble codes by jumping the blue Service Check Connector under the passenger side dash. with a wire or small paper clip. Look in the Common DIY and Info thread "Sticky" at the top of the General Tech Help section for more info.

Darn OBD1. It's either MAP Sensor (3) or BARO sensor (13) I can't quite tell if the light is giving a long blink or not. I'll pull it and check it out tonight.

Then I would see that as either 3 or 12? And since you have a hot air intake I'd guess the "3"...but get the actual code.

Both 3 and 12, actually. Cleaned my EGR system, light hasn't come on since. If anything changes I'll update this. Cold air intakes will cause MAP sensor trouble codes?

Not all the time, there is some sensor on the OE tube but not to do with the MAP...some air chamber or something, too tired to look and that may only be on the EX's..sorry for being lazy.

For now, the code is gone.....wish you the best.
