'95 Accord 5door EX electrical
I gave a jump to someone and drove home without any problems or dash lights. 20min later I tried to start the car and all power went off as the key hit the START position. I mean ALL power. I disconnected the battery, reconnected it-power on-go to start and the same issue. Charged the battery, reconnected; same issue as the key was turned to start. Removed the starter and had it checked-OKAY. Multi tester leads running from NEG terminal to engine block with ONLY the positive terminal connected showed 12.45 volts(battery was 12.69v). Continuity was exhibited between hot leads of the control unit(fuse box) and the engine block. Disconected the ignition switch and still had neg to block voltage. Disconnected the altenator with battery completely charged and connected and still no power as the key turned to start. Also heard two clicks from the engine compartment(I have 54yo ears subjected to construction noises for 20 yrs, and now a 2yo precious girl, so it seemed like the engine conpartment) almost simultaneously, as the key turned to start. Power AND component functions are exhibited as the key turns, until it hits START. Any thoughts? NEED HELP! dave@statpromo.com for lengthy responses or more info.

I think all of the power turning off is normal when you turn the key to start the car.
There is a small wire that goes to the starter that is black with a white stripe. Connect the + volt meter lead to that wire. Ground the - meter lead. Try to start the car. That wire should have 12V. Let us know what you find.
Is your accord an automatic or manual transmission?

thanks. just did that this am. battery read 12.39v, positive lead connected to wire pulled off of starter and neg lead grounded to engine block read 11.65v as key was turned to start. Transmission is 4sp auto. 2.2L 145hp SOHC Vtech.

Sounds like the starter has gone bad.....~12v to the solenoid, if there is 12v to the BIG wire.....humm. Now there is the loss of ground. Be sure the gound cable is clean and tight...not just at the battery but it also attaches to the body and trans.
As I read this again....check the ground(s) first.
