07 2.4 EX Accord with 78k miles.

Never had tranny fluid changed out before.

Am I asking for trouble in changing it now? Heard urban myths about a fluid swap causing problems in a high mileage car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, I was just reading your post in the new member area...Welcome.

Change it. Might do two drain and fills, drive a few miles between changes. Highly suggest you only use Honda fluid. The "how to" should be in the owners manual. If you don't have that or have questions, let us know and someone will be able to help out.

your not really in the category of high mileage I think the interval is ~80k for changes, so if you were to go by that your early. Like the last poster said use Honda ATF and do two drain and fills I would suggest driving it for 500 or so miles between drains.

One thing I did forget, these do have an inline filter, 25430-PLR-003. About $20 at the dealer. #4 in pic

I think the service for the trans is suppose to be done at 60K.

I don't know if that would really be considered high mileage, given that the recommended service interval appears to be 30,000km.

For comparison, note that I'm due to change my fluid any day now (too lazy to go get the super funnel and breaker bar) and this is on a 93 Accord with roughly 124,000 miles that has never had a fluid change. I'm not afraid of any problems cropping up because the transmission already shifts roughly on my car to begin with, at this point I have nothing to lose.

I am also going to change my fluid multiple times as poorman said because the fluid is long overdue for change and the drain plug will only give you about a 1/3 of the fluid, the rest will remain in the trans. and you'll have to do multiple drain and fills to dilute it out. Maybe you should only do two because you've missed the interval twice. You can get away with doing it once I think. Like I said, I don't think 80,000 is high mileage.
