Default Changing transmission fluid help

I need to change my tranny fluid and i want to be sure i am doing it right. Is it just like changing engine oil or is there a different procedure?

You will need to do 3 or so transmission changes over a couple days. The reason is that there is a lot of fluid within the hoses and solenoids. Make the change, drive for about 30 minutes, change again, drive for about 30 minutes, change again. You can do a power flush but that is much more involved.

does your bicycle have a Manual or At transmission .????. it makes a bit of difference when you are going to fill it up.. also it makes a difference on the year of the car , some AT tranny you fill through the dipstickk some you have to remove a 17 mm plug

So,,,, please be nice to us and input year and model in your signature and type of tranny

Sorry deserthonda, it is a 1998 honda accord LX with an automatic transmission. I looked it up at found that you have to turn the car on until it reaches operating temp and then drain the fluid in the same manner as changing motor oil and then refill through the dipstick and check before you drive around for 15min or so and check after the drive. Is this the correct procedure other than changing the fluid 3 times to for a flush?

when you are ready to refill it ( if just doing drain and refill ) put 3 qts of Honda ATF-Z1 .. there is no need to drive the car and recheck it again ,,just make sure to use only ATF-Z1 it costs about $ 7.50 per QT..

deserthonda,
You need to do multiple changes as there is no pan like the oil pan. There will be old ATF within the transmission. I didn't say to drive the car and check the level, there is a reason why you need to do multiple changes, otherwise the old ATF will contaminate the new.
