Default check engine light

Sorry guys I just can't figure this out. My problem is when I start the car after sitting a couple hours the check engine light comes on and will stay on till the car is turned off and back on again. In othere words I can literally start the car wait a few seconds till the light comes on shut the car off and start it again imediatly and the light goes out. Am not sure what this could be cause if I drive with the light on it drives no different then if the light is off. Any suggestion are greatly appreciated.

Am not sure why you think it's a 76 . Doesn't matter though I guess I should have said It's a 92 Canadian car if that makes a difference, its also a 5 speed. Sorry for the confussion.

Golly gee whiz, there is a difference between the 76 and the 92.....
Check this link and you can find the code stored in the ECU;
