First, make sure ATF level is good. If it's been some time since a ATF change, suggest a drain/refill w/ approximately 3 qts of Honda ATF.

Exactly what code (Pnnnn) was returned?

There is a torque converter lock-up solenoid circuit that could be open. However, this would not affect performance except to disable torque converter lockup which would increase fuel consumption, only noticeable on long highway trips. I operated a 97 Acura TL w/ disfunctional torque converter lockup for 5 yrs w/ no issues other than continual Check Engine Light from code P0740.

good luck
