Be happy the paint (color) isn't coming off.
nice try, but I have a 25 yr old volvo and a 14 yr old chevy both with original paint and neither one look as bad as my 10 yr old accord. no garage for any of them and I care for them all the same. I love my accord and will probably get another one, but honda definately needs to tighten up on this.

Don't blame the maker of the car.....blame the maker of the paint. These were the first years of the lower VOC paints/clears (mid 90's)......the paint companies have solved their issues since then. Honda at one point would pay some money to repair the cars in the years impacted.

If you have an issue on an 2002, I'm betting something else is going on.

I have an 03 with peeling clear-coat. It started with a small spot on the roof, and now it's spreading to the top ridge of the doors, trunk lid, and just started on the hood. It's a shame because this car runs like a dream, and everything works great. A good paint job, will cost $3500, and I'll never get my money back for that unless I keep the car another 9 years. I'm trying to do little touch-ups on it now, but in another year or so it's probably going to be completely out of control. If the car is still running great in another year, I will bite the bullet and get another paint job. I'd like to change from the Black, to a nice Blue color, but that costs extra.

The sad part is, I have an old 96 Chevy pickup, that I've never taken care of, that's been sitting in the same driveway, and it's paint job looks better than the Accord. That's life, I guess. I've seen plenty of Chevys, and other brands, with the same problem, so it's not all on Honda. Luck of the draw I suppose.

Default Paint Peeling/Gone

I own a Honda Accord 2002. For the past couple of years the paint has slowly disappeared from my hood, roof, and side panels of my car. The car runs great, but it is embarrassing to be seen getting out of! I have checked for recalls on the paint job, but no luck. I have seen youtube videos, exposing a number of problems like mine, not only for a car as old as mine, but also new models. What's up with that???

This is not an environmental fallout issue. It's a paint issue. There is an 05 Accord I see around town, that is worse than mine.

2 answer most of your questions. If the paint job was done at Autoway dealership lets just say i know for a fact that the skimp out on the clear. i live in florida been doing paint and body work at many reputable places autoway and macco are prob the WORST when it comes to doing a good paint job. now some of you say its from the factory itself but thats not the case. in fact when a vehical gets transported to a dealer 1st step is it goes to the autobody shop then the detailing department and then finally to the lot. once the clear starts to fade in a certain area moisture will get between the to layers and destroy more of it slowely( if not applied correctly). this wont always happens its just with short cuts some people use when applying clear. there is actually a test light which can be purchased to determian how much clear coat is in certain spots. but its expensive and unless your a hardcore painter doing award winning works theres really no need for this tool.

with all that being said YES:
dont get paint job from commercial paintshops, there more concerned with keeping material cost down and a quick turnover not quality
try to polish every chance you can due to fl weather, when haveing a "factory paint job"

hi guys.

i have a '98 accord. i've been getting the car washed (automatic) and hand waxing myself right after but of course the malaise is all over my roof and trunk and most of my hood. its widespread in a nutshell.

silly question, but is it ok for me to stop waxing? i imagine it is a waste of time and effort and money - wanted to confirm that. i don't plan to get her repainted.

thanks.
