Default Code 0470 newly rebuilt trans installed

Is the torque converter clutch solenoid valve an internal or external part? I just installed a rebuilt trans in my 2000 Accord V6 and after about 50 miles it threw a 0470 code.

P0470 is not in the list of OBD2 honda codes. Are you sure that you have the correct code?

I erased the code but if that number is incorrect the words were "torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit" . Do you know if this is something I can check on the outside of the trans? Perhaps a loose electrical connector?

It looks like the code is p0740 for the lockup clutch. It locks the torque converter.

There is a lockup solenoid on the transmission. It is part #10 (I think) on the picture below. I think #8 is the shift solenoid, so #10 would be the lockup (torque converter). Check both to be safe.

Check that the electrical connectors are plugged in securely. Also check that the wiring and also the solenoids did not get damaged when installing the transmission.

You may want to call the shop that did the work to let them know what code you got.

Thanks, I'll check the connections tonight. My 18 year old son and I put the trans in while he was home from winter break from Lehigh U. It was a nice father son project!

Code appears at about 62 mph. All connections seem tight. Is there a diagnostic I could perform myself? Part #10 was removed from old trans, which didn't throw a code. Part #8 came already attached to rebuilt trans. Thanks again

I am not so familiar with the V6.

Unplug the electrical connector to #10. How many pins are there? At least one of the pins should have 12V to ground (use a valve cover as the ground) when the key is in the II position.

The only way torque converter lockup solenoid can fix P0740 is if the inlet screens are blocked. This would permanent "close" the valve and prevent lockup. Valve opens to actuate torque converter lockup. An electrical fault in the lockup solenoid sets a different code.

P0740 means the TCU detected slippage (> 10% I think) between engine and wheels indicating the torque converter is not locked. It only checks at speeds above 55 mph, so you can drive for some time before code will appear.

I had this code on Acura TL and simply lived w/ the code. It was not a solenoid issue, but an internal hydaulic fault preventing lockup.

good luck

#8 in the picture is your lockup solenoids. #10 is the linear solenoid or pressure control solenoids.
Could be the lockup solenoid itself or the screen is blocked with crap, or a faulty torque converter.
