My sons 98 LEV 4cyl auto Accord had the codes 1739 and 1457 which are auto trans and evap canister codes. When I read them I erased them and the CEL has not come back on after a week. Does this mean that it is an intermittent problem and is not currently a problem?

Could be, but then again it could be the ECU/PCM is "not ready" yet. There is a cycle of some conditions that is has to go through before it will reset and then show codes.......hope for the best, if they came back, time for some testing.
