Default Cooling problem

I have a couple of questions a could use advise, my 95 Accord begins to overheat after a few min with AC running, and mostly at Idle with AC on. I have checked the fans, which bring me to a new question. Which is the one for cooling and one that kicks in with AC compressor? Seems the one on the passenger side, with the larger shroud is the cooling, and the one on the drivers side with the smaller shroud activated when AC s on? Is that correct?. I tested the one on the drivers side by connecting diectly to battery and worked fine. I understand when compressor is activated, BOTH fans should come on and stay on however; when checked they both came on initially then off for a min or so then only the passenger side came on. Then off then only that same one came on, drivers side never came back on, I did this for about 20 min and drivers side never kicked in again.. Any opinions on what I should check next? Thanks in advance; any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated.. [][][:@]

Correct,,,,,, BOTH fans should come on with a/c on or off ,, assuming coolant temp is hot enough..
Correct,, pass side is the main radiator cooling fan.driver side is the a/c condensor fan ( assuming it is a 4 cylinder )

try something, with car runing a/c on, when the a/c fan does not work, get a big screwdriver and bang on the fan motor,, if it comes on you got a bad motor
if it still does not come on, disconnect the plug and chk to see if you get power and ground at the motor .. if you do you got a bad fan motor
if not..........chk the fuse , if ok,, then it could be a bad cond fan relay or bad wiring

try and let us know

start with the fuses just to be sure.... but it sounds to me more like a fan relay.... do a search through here for fan relay and you'll find the troubleshooting steps, it sounds like the fans work just fine but it's a relay problem or if you're overheating have you checked the thermostat and coolant level? once the car reaches it's temperature the thermostat should open up, the upper radiator hose will be pressurized (hard if you squeeze it) then when it reaches temp the thermostat should open and that hose should get softer/squishy for a time, if it doesn't then you may just have a stuck thermostat

Yea now that I come to think about it, that fan did, at one point run pretty sluggish or not as quickly as is should, in addition once I jumped it directly to battery if failed (tried several times0 but after I removed the fan I wired it again and worked. It may be on it's last cycles as it is the original and has over 180k miles. I will however, go with your suggestions just to verify.. Thanks Desert..

Yes the fuse was checked, looked good, thermostat was replaced about a year ago, I can feel lower hose getting just as hot as top hose after a few min or when therm opens. Does this sound correct? I will also look on site for fan relay procedures, thanks Sir_nasty

do not WASTE YOUR TIME LOOKING FOR THINGS,, DO THE TEST I ADVICED YOU.......

put the a/c on, start the car, if fan does not work,, hit the fan motor with a screwdriver if it comes on you got a bad motor no need to go any further but to replace the motor ..

DesertHonda, YOU ROCK.. First thing I did when I got home was turn on the AC, Fan was not running, just tapped it slightly with a large screwdriver and WALAH fan came on, tried it again with same results.. Will now shop around for a new fan motor...Thanks again....

I have been using a set up like that for the past 5 years.....Personally i think that it is a great deal , we get it from a local radiator shop......we have installed dozens had 2 come back so far to warranty......
Honda fan motor although it might last longer it is way too expensive around 235 dollars just for the motor,, ,,,,,,,,this set up comes with motor and fan blade and shroud ..

If it were my car i would use it
