I've also had the same symptoms in a Saturn where the starter clutch was slipping out of place AFTER being started...
I thought Saturns were made of styrofoam

well .... both lower engine mounts are blown .... the rear is pretty bad. Oh yeah ..... the V6 has vacuum lines on both ..... yea, more for me to screw up on. I'm changing all 3 and packing them with poly if I can do it tonight. I'm also adding a torsion damper since the rear mount is only a year old.

Sounds like you'll have a lot of fun tonight with that. At least it's not your transmission

Just out of curiosity, how would you blow out all of the mounts at the same time?

Do you think that the rear one went out, and basically tore up the other one?

the front mount usually goes bad and then the passenger side mount, then the lower driver side mounts and finally the rear. it's actually not too bad.

i do the front and side mount in 10 minutes. the rear...it's a pain in the bootahy.

Well, my machinist friend and I replaced the lower mounts on Saturday and what a bitter cold day it was!!! The front mount was pretty worn. You can wobble it pretty easilly. The rear was blown apart! It had a huge tear in the rubber and was filled with stank old water that spilled on my friend and his Summit Racing pad. The rear wasn't really any harder than the front, actually there is more room around the rear one. We had one bolt that appeared to have been locked in place by aluminum shavings from the block .... a little tap, die and file work fixed that. The side mount is sagging, but that's not what was causing my wheels to skip, so it can wait for a warmer day ..... along with my torsion damper that is scheduled to arive tomorrow.

BTW --- packing the mounts with poly actually DOES work!!!! I can feel a little rumble at idle now. I expect it to get stronger when I change the last mount and add the damper, but that should be the end of the blown engine mounts on this car ..... hopefully.

LOL .... I have the rear to take a pic to show you guys ..... the front and side are worn .... I think that they are original, but worn to the point of replacement. The rear is likely my fault from how I drive, but the others are lust 8 years old I guess.

See why I have a damper going in?
