Default Dead motor

Well, according to the shop the motor in my 03 honda accord is dead and I need a new one. How much should I expect to pay for a replacement?

background: my car stalled yesterday and so my brother-in-law whose actually good with cars took a look at it. He suspected it was the fuel pump so he did this thing where he was turning the ignition and giving it gas. He was trying to see if the RPMs would climb, which they weren't, and then the engine eventually gave out. While before the engine had some signs of life, even turning over a little... now it's completely dead. Frustrated. Venting.

I would find out what is exactly wrong with it before you go replacing it.

But if you do need to replace it you can find replacements in the $500 range not including the labor to install it.
