Default delayed vtec engagement

Last couple of days, I've been noticing a big delay in the engagement of the vtec system, mainly in 1st and 2nd gears. it feels like the car will reach it's limits on the first set of valves, wait a second, then bam, the other half of the valves kick in. Every now and then the vtec will even cut out just after it kicks in, the only trouble code I'm picking up is one for the flow of EGR gases (had it for the last 2 months). as some of you might recall, I recently replaced most of the ignition system, and new CV's (right one about a month ago, left one last week). B/c the timing of it, I think it has something to do with the new left CV, but it is the one for an abs equipped, so it shouldn't be the problem, any other ideas about it?

do you know what the exact trouble code is? Could it by chance be an O2 sensor instead?

The code is 401, I think, I know for sure that is the EGR flow, may check the o2 sensor for that, I'm thinkin clogged tubing, as far as the oil, sadly, I haven't checked it, since I changed it, like 6-8 weeks ago. I've got no leaks, and no smoke, vtec only seems to act stupid once the car is warmed, or when I'm in a turn, my next step is to look at the oil level, and possibly change it out for a slightly thicker viscocity? Looking at a cutout view of the rockers/valves seems that the oil is what actuates the system, is this correct?

you may also want to clean your vtec silenoid and valve. after awhile trash gets built up in there. there is a little screen in it to keep trash out. i did it the other day on my 94 and it helped.

Default Code P401...

Here is your P401 code interrupt'd

Causes:
1st.-Egr Valve defective cause by # 3
2nd.-EGR pressure sensor/temperature sensor defective
3rd.-EGR system passages in the Engine blocked with Carbon
and
4th.-EGR solenoid defective...

In other words my friens Start Cleaning out the Carbon, and take a check the EGR valve..

BaDa-Bing and out...
