Default Distributor or Fuel Pump?

Is this a distributor, fuel injector or fuel pump issue, or something else.

From a cold start:
there is a long crank, 6-12 seconds, with a grinding noise but the engine does turn.
Whiff of gas after starting
Rough idle
sluggish acceleration.
Electrical test of Battery, starter and alternator tests good. Alternator and battery are less than a year and starter is 3-4 years old.
I tried the trick where you install the key into ii position, wait for the lights to clear then repeat 3X to activate the pump same result.

Any thoughts?

Many items can cause engine performance issues. You'll have to test to narrow down the problem.

Did you have any work done to the car not long before you noticed these symptoms?

I'd check for any stored codes to give you some guidance.
Test the fuel pressure. You may need to get a loaner tool from a parts store to test the pressure.
I'd probably do a compression test just to see if compression is an issue.
