I have a '95 Accord EX coupe with a F22B1/5sp. Several years ago a shaft seal started leaking and before I realized it I wound up driving it for several hundred miles with almost no oil in the transmission. I fixed the leak and it was never run low on oil again but it whines loudly in 5th gear. I never had any trouble with it popping out of gear or anything and I drove it for another 80,000 miles with no issues. However I am currently rebuilding the engine and while I had the trans out I took it to a shop for a bench build. They said that it is in good shape overall and they can replace all the bearings with no problems but it will need a new 5th gear set. (both mainshaft/countershaft gears). I have looked all over but haven't had any luck. My Honda dealer has one but the other has been discontinued and I can't see the sense in replacing one and not the other. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
