Default Door Checker for 1997 Accord

Hello,

If I could have simply sent someone a PM for this, my apologies.

I am in need of door checkers (driver's and front passenger). I have found a used 1996 coupe door checker (driver and passenger) on eBay going for $20.

Will this fit on a 1997 Accord 4dr?

If yes, think the price is OK? Or I can do better?

Can I guess we are talking about what I call the door jam switch? The switch that "tells" the car if the door is open or closed.

If so, go to someplace like majestic honda (or any other online honda dealer) and look up the part numbers for the "years in question".....my guess is that they are the same.

My next point.....the switch is a pretty simple one. Most "ground" a wire when the door is open. What I have done on several of mine is pull the switch - tape or string the wire to it so it doesn't pull back into the body of the car. Some fine sandpaper on the switch where it contacts the body of the car - sending the "ground signal" - and life if good....just me

EDIT: Sorry, should have started out with "what exactly is the issue are you having"?

I'm guessing the door checker is that thing at the hinges to keep the door from swinging "too far" open.

97 4-door
72340-SK7-003

96 2-door
72340-SS0-003

The part numbers aren't the same. The drawings for the parts look like they are about the same, so maybe they are close enough you can make it work? But I wouldn't count on it.

I was always told "reading is fundamental."

After creating this thread, I saw the sticky "Common DIY and Info. Threads" and in there was a Parts Compatibility thread. I should have read this first and gotten my answer. If this thread had been ignored, I wouldn't complain lol. That would've been my fault. I really appreciate the response. You guys are awesome.

Yes, the checker is just as JimBlake said.

My issue is, the front passenger door has no limit lol. Well it swings open till the fender stops it (door/fender paint has started to peel off from this). To add to this, the little pin (screw? nut?) - part #75760-SB2-003 - that holds the checker to the car is gone. I literally have a Phillips screw in there now. The driver side is better, it's just worn out. You feel the door drop a little when you open it. And lifts a little when you close it.

Yes @ JimBlake, the parts do look alike, but I'll hold off on buying a 96's. Hopefully I can find a 97's

You can close this thread. Thank you!

car-part dot com for other years that use the same part.

I'm gonna GUESS(!) that 96 & 97 are the same (even back to 94?). You need to worry about 2-door vs. 4-door.

Ah I see.

I went to the site you provided (thanks), but couldn't figure out if all the listed results are interchangeable. I mean at the top of the search results, it clearly states "Not all displayed parts are interchangeable. Please verify with the recycler that the part fits your auto."

I will call in and verify. Thanks guys.
