RE: Driver side axle problem
Is the problem going into the transmission or the hub?
There is a snap ring that can be a pain to push back in unless you get enough leverage. It will snap into place. Make sure the ring isn't bent too much and use some oil on the the end to lubricate it.

RE: Driver side axle problem
odds are you probally messed up the axle seal putting it in, may want to check it to see if its spliced anywhere on it and replace it if it is, when you put the axle in make sure it feels as though the splines are lined up, then once this is done go to the front of the axle by the hub and give it a few smacks in using the axle itself for leverage and as a slide hammer, should slide right in, if it doesnt check the splines on the axle itself for burs and file them off and reinstall. Good luck!

RE: Driver side axle problem
Manuals all recommend replacing the snap ring. It can become distorted on withdrawal. Clean all grooves carefully and receiving groove w/ q-tip and solvent. Any dirt in the receiving groove can prevent engagement.
