Default Drum doesn't fit after changing shoes

After changing the brake shoes on the rear brakes (97 Accord SE), I can't put the drums back (wouldn't fit in the drum diameter). I tried to move the adjuster bolt to move the shoes a little inwards but after setting the adjusting spring in place, I can't move the adjuster bolt.
Anything I can do now?

Also, while putting on the adjusting spring, the dust boot came off the caliper and I leaked a little brake fluid. Should I have to bleed the brakes? Is there any hazard? I basically put the boot back in place.

Please help, I'm stuck with the car on a stand.

you should be able to lift up the stoptab and turn the adjuster all the way back in.
also you might need to work the shoes up and down a little bit to get the drum back on.

when installing new shoes you have to wind the self-adjuster almost all the way back.

like others have said , make sure that the star wheel is all the way backed off,,

also, make sure that the adjuster rod is properly inside the grooves in the shoes

You might need to use a slotted screwdriver to turn the adjuster. Also, make sure the shoes are seat perfectly in the circle of the drum, sometimes they will slide up/down and make it an oval shape.

Thanks all. I should have turned thestar wheel all the way in the first place. I did have to use a screw driver to move the star wheel with the tabs up. Changing the second set of shoes was a breeze.

Also, having lost a bit of brake fluid, the brake pedal felt soft. That changed when I bled the brake fluid.
