Dumb key question

Dumb key question
I guess I'm paranoid about this anti theft/computer thing so here's the dummy question. When I put the key in the ignition of my '00 Accord, I get a little green light key icon on the dash the says it's the right key. If I use my spare non-transponder key just to turn it on in order to roll up the windows or something, is the computer going to think someone's trying to steal the car with a bogus key and shut something down?

RE: Dumb key question
If you mean the Valet key as your spare then the key is cut to fit your car. I don't think the computer will shut anything down, it just knows that the valet key is in instead of the regular transponder key.

RE: Dumb key question
It's not the valet key. When I got the car, I only got 1 key with it so I had the hardware store cut me a spare from the original just for times when I lock the doors with the key inside. My wife has the Honda key and I have the spare. Sometimes she leaves the window down and I don't want to track her keys down.

RE: Dumb key question
Don't get confused...
The VALET key comeswith the car, it's got a grey plastic head(instead of black). It has in immobilizer chip in it. So it WILL start the engine. It just won't open the trunk or glovebox.
A spare key made from a simple metal blank at the hardware store will not start the engine. But you should be able to turn on accessories & roll windows.

O.K., the final answer, after testing it, is this: a 99 cent aftermarket key from the hardware store will still show the green light on the dash and works fine for everything except starting the car. There are no issues with the computer. I did not attempt to start the car as I knew it wouldn't work and didn't want to chance glitching the security system.
