Default ECU Ground

You can see my other thread for reference but I'm wonder, when I took out the ECU to put in a chipped obd1 ECU I put the old one back in cuz I was having issues with the new one but did not screw the nuts in all the way expecting to take it back out soon. Is that metal bracket holding the ECU to the chassis grounding the ECU? Could that be my issue and is why I'm having intermittent performance problems?

The ground wire for the ECU is attached to the intake manifold, see attached pic.

Yeah, I'm familiar with that ground to ground the ECU. Would the ECU not being completely secured to the chassis in the cabin cause an intermittent issue?

...I have some ideas, im gonna do a continuity test as well. I'm just wondering if that also grounds the ecu

Not in my experience. For a week or so my ECU was just lying on the floor not bolted in and I had no problems with either CELs or performance. A lot (most?) of the inputs and outputs of the ECU are in the five-volt range. With those low voltages I don't think Honda would rely on a case ground.

all grounds are provided through the harness connector for the ECM

It appears that not all grounds were sufficient with the age of the car. the grounding kit has provided my car with a more torque, brighter lights, and a reduction in the intermittent quirks. Perhaps g101 was grounded to the manifold but from there to the engine head and block it was not grounding to the chasis correctly until I put the extra cables in.
