Default EGR Valve Code

I have a 2002 Accord LX, 3 litre V6, auto Trans. Has 120K + miles. Check engine light came on and the code related to the EGR Valve. So I changed it. As you prob. realize (since im here) it didn't fix the problem, check engine light came back on and still getting bad gas mileage. I have since taken the valve back off and sprayed carb cleaner in the ports to clean out the carbon. The light still came back on. What else can I do to fix this???

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Thanks,
Richard

those have issues with the egr ports being plugged ,,,,,most likely that might be the issue , if so you need to remove the planum and clean the ports , ,. post the code here ,,

Ok, I found the directions to clean the egr ports for a 94 accord in the DIY section. Are these instructions valid for a 2002? I don't have the actual code to post as I am out of town right now. But if I remember correctly it is the egr flow code...

Thanks...

The procedure on a V6 is different. Google 99-085 service bulletin

The first link will give you the instructions on what to do.

Found the instructions Thanks. It says it applies to '98 - '01 models I just want to make sure this fix will work on my '02 I don't know if there were any significant changes. My next question is where do I get the kit with the special drill bit and EGR pipe? Can I go to my local Auto Zone or do I have to get it at the Honda dealer? Will the dealer even sell me this kit???

Thanks for all the help!!!!!!

The 02 setup should be identical to the 98-01, because they are the same generation accord.

The kit would be sold at the honda dealership, and they will sell it to you. I don't know if the parts stores sell them.

Thanks for all the good info. I feel confident that I will be able to fix the problem now.

Now all I need is some instructions on how to change the timing belt while I have the engine all pulled apart.

Thanks,
Richard

The timing belt is a completely different story, and there would be no work duplicated from the EGR port cleaning.
