Default Engine Cam

I have a 2000 4 cyl accord with 92,000 miles. I had a clicking noise in the engine and ask the Honda dealer to check it out and change the timing belt and water pump as it was almost due. The dealer just called me and said the front cam lobe was wore and the cam & rocker arm would need to be replaced. The service rep said he had never seen one. My extended warrenty was up about 2 months ago. (7 years). The cost with the timing belt and cam will be about $1900.
I've had Hondas and my son has one with 245,000 miles on it and runs great.
Is there any record of cam failure in these engines? I did change the oil regurlarly. I have records of the changes. The service rep said the engine looks clean inside.
I will try to get Honda to help with this repair.
Thanks for a reply.

You might check for a blocked oil delivery path. That's about only way for wear to occur, lack of oil to the camshaft.

A cheaper fix might be to purchase a used head and have a mechanic install. I imagine a lot of the cost is a new Honda head ($$), unless Honda will pick up part of the tab.

good luck
