Engine Oil for Honda Accord 2005 (k24a4) Thai Model CM5
hi frds
i have honda accord 2005 thai model with 47k mileage on the meter. It's time to change the oil now and i am interested to get some good experience from the expert owners of this car.
it is honda maintained and they use something like 10w dont remember full specs but after spending lot of time on internet i came to know that the recomended oil is 5w 20 which i think comes in Zic A+ in pakistan.
i also felt that my car is not getting good pick up since last oil change from honda and came to know that fully synthetic oil may increase the pickup of the car and also good fuel economy.
need expert advice from the owners of accord (k24a4).
The thing is the climate here in my city in summer is upto 118F and in winter as low as 30F
Please suggest the best oil grade according to the climate. Is it good to use 5w 20 or 5w 30 or 10w 30 in this type of hot climate in summer ????
Thanks....

You should not feel a difference in performance based on the oil used.
Take a look in the owner's manual. They usually have a diagram showing the temperature ranges covered by different weights of oil. I think your engine requires 5w-30.

I'm pretty sure the K24 motor calls for 5-20w. For your summers I would run 5-30w in your car. Synthetic oil is not going to increase the performance of the engine but can offfer extra protection in extreme conditions. If you change your oil and filter on a regular basis then I don't think synthetic is necessary for this engine. Make sure you always use a good quality filter. The Honda OEM filter is very good. Also once you use synthetic oil, then it's a good idea to keep on using synthetic.
My TSX K24 engine calls for 5w-30. Just looked in the owner's manual for an 05 (see diy section for the owners manuals thread) and it calls for 5w-20.
The brand is not as important as checking the oil level periodically and changing at the recommended interval. I personally use Castrol synthetic as the brand.

There's a lot of marketing for oils, and some oils that are called synthetic in USA (hydro-cracked type-III base stock) are not allowed to be called synthetic elsewhere.
The "weight" is probably printed on your oil fill cap, or else on the dipstick. 5w-30 or 5w-20 is my guess.
I don't know the brand "Zic" so not sure if it's a high-quality or low-quality name.
Since Honda oil comes in 10w-30, maybe that's what they call for in your part of the world? But if you find it printed in the owners manual or on the engine, THAT is what you should go for.
