My engine is overheating and leaking coolant out of one of the hoses. I have attached a picture with arrows pointing out where the leak is coming from:



The radiator and upper hose are new and were just replaced about a week and a half ago. It appears the mechanics who did the replacement did not replace this hose, as it looks visibly worn and old compared to the new upper hose also in the picture. I believe this is the hose that runs to the heater? It no longer will blow hot air inside of the car.

Is there anything else I should check? Is this an easy repair, and where would I get the correct part for it? I'm trying to get the shop who did the radiator and hose replacements to do this for free, as they failed to do it the first time, but it's unclear as of now whether or not they will.

 

What you have pointed out is the temp sending unit-the one for the gauge.

Now there is a hose under the dist that could be leaking....of course I'm guessing this is a 94-97 4 cyl accord.

 

It's a '99 4 cylinder Accord. Probably should have included that in the first post!

It's possible there is something else over there leaking, but that's where I noticed steam and coolant coming out from.

 

More than likely it is the hose under the dist....look from the backside (fire wall to the front of the car) for the hose I'm spekaing of....

 

Thanks for the help. I see the lower hose you're talking about now, and it definitely looks like it's been leaked all over. It also looks like it was not replaced as it was supposed to be.

 

Don't know if you are going to change the "coolant" hose or not...either way, to get to that small hose,it is easier if you pull the dist...and based upon the pic, a new dist o-ring would be a real good idea....oil build up and that fact it is off already.

 

Thanks again for the advice. Just curious, how can you tell based on that pic that the O-ring needs replacement? I'm obviously not very car savvy, but I'm usually good with hands-on stuff and am always trying to learn more.

 

Well, the oil/dirt on the bottom of the dist COULD be from a few things. One of which could be the o-ring, fairly common.....some find it easier to get to that hose by marking and then pulling the dist (you mark the housing so you can put it back and keep the timing).....so if you go that route, why not replace it, I think they are ~$3 from the dealer.
