Excessive oil consumption
Not only do I have a brake fluid issue but oil consumption has become an issue. It's a 2001 with 239K and it's always consumed a little oil. Over the last couple of years, it's gotten really bad and now it's somewhat concerning.
Case in point. Oil was changed July 16 at 236,600 miles. It is now about 6 weeks later and the oil is almost not registering on the dipstick after 3,000 miles. That seems a bit excessive to me.
There are no leaks, had one at the distributor O ring awhile ago but that's fixed, slight residue around the oil pan but surely not enough to go through 5 qts of oil in 6 weeks.
thoughts?

First off, if oil is still barely registering on the dipstick, then your engine has probably consumed only two quarts, not five.
Second, a quart every fifteen-hundred miles for an engine with that many miles in it isn't all that bad (but it ain't great either)
Third, the first place inside the engine I'd suspect would be the valve guides; rings would be a close second.

There is no smoke, never has been. No spots on driveway, it's very strange.
I've heard about the PCV before and have changed it with no change at all.
The car runs great so I shouldn't complain but having to put oil in every other fill up seems a bit strange too.
