Question F22 to f23a1 swap

Hi, I have a 95 accord with a blown f22 engine and a 5 speed transmission. I have a f23a1 engine I want to use as power source. This is a daily driver so other than the swap I don't intend to perform any race mods.
1) Can I use same ECM I have now?
1a) If yes, do I have to mod it? Will I be able to activate VTEC?
1b) If not, what ECM I need?
2) Do I have to change wire harness? I would like to keep the same harness as I don't have any other.
3) Will my current distributor works? I don't have the one for the f23.

Thanks

The F22 and F23 engines are pretty similar. That being said, this swap has some challenges. Here are some off the top of my head.

I am not sure how the F23 engine will run with the F22 ECU. It should be ok as long as you can connect all of the sensors.

You would almost have to use the F22 distributor, because two of the sensors on the F23 in the distributor were moved to under the timing belt cover.

The other tricky part will be the locations and electrical connectors of the various sensors. For example, the IACV/FITV were combined on the F23 engine, where your F22 had two different air controls. The Vtec electrical connectors could be different as well.

You might want to look into get a wiring harness from a 98-02 accord if you can find a cheap one from a junkyard. Then you could use a 96-97 ECU. The one problem you would have is the 96-97 ECU is that it would give a CEL for not having a secondary O2 sensor. Yet another complication.

The 98-02 ECU has an immobilizer that you would have to figure out how to bypass.

Another option is to check out car-part.com to look for a used engine from a 94-97 accord. That site searches junkyards and will sort by price or distance. You may find a cheap used engine near where you live.

I should add that the F22 is a non-VTEC engine.

Your 1995 is OBD-1 non-VTEC and the F23A1 is OBD-2 with VTEC. There's some substantial changes in the wiring harness between OBD-1 and OBD-2. That's more difficult than the VTEC wiring, which will be part of the harness if you grab what you need from the wiring harness of the F23 donor car.

Does your 5th gen have vtec already?

Yes, Roader's car was already OBD-II.

I only have the engine, I don't mind loosing the VTEC as long as this doesn't hurt the engine

The f23a1 does have vtec and you should keep it the engine is designed to run with it and you will want the extra torque and power. You will need an F23A1 ECU and wiring harness. This conversion will not be easy.

I'm having a shop do this same swap for me. Mine is a 97 non-VTEC and they told me all I needed to run this engine was a new ecu. They said they can wire in the VTEC. But yours is a 95 so it's OBD1, mine is OBD2.

The differences in wiring harness OBD-1 vs. OBD-2 are much greater than VTEC vs. non-VTEC.

A non-VTEC car will probably have the VTEC wiring from the console out to the engine bay. You only need to add the VTEC engine harness.

An OBD-1 car will have harness plugs that won't even plug into an OBD-2 PCM. You'll need the OBD-2 wiring harness from the console out to the engine bay.
