The vtec is enabled at 2300-3200 rpms depending certain sensors.

I never felt the vtec kick in on my car. It is not set up like overdrive on an automatic transmission.

The Accord's version of VTEC is set up to be more smooth transitions, not silly kick-in-the-pants abrupt transitions. And it's also set up more for improving MPG rather than a big horsepower kick.

In fact, I bet a lot of the ricers driving Integras think they're feeling VTEC "kick-in". When in reality what's really happening at 5800rpm is the 2ndary runners of the intake manifold are opening up.

I don't think the rev-limiter is at 5800, I thought the redline is higher than that. But I'm really not sure, cause I never owned a 1995. Where's the redline on the tachometer? The stuff that happens at 5800 on a DOHC VTEC engine has very little to do with your car.

The thread has kinda wandered around with questions about "is this really a vtec engine" or "vtec engages at 5800" etc.

Have you checked for error codes like HondaDude suggested?

well my gauge says my redline is at 6200 but its automatic gauges in a manual car so i dunno if the automatics have a higher redline than manuals that one reason why i think im just hitting my redline but no i havent checked for codes yet i was maybe thinking about changing my fuel filter or oil filter but i dont wanna change them and it not be the problem ya know

Fuel & oil filters wouldn't cause a sharp cut like a rev-limiter. Fuel filter would probably cause loss of power, sputtering, uneven-ness at high load.

Not to discourage you from doing normal maintenance when it's required, but I don't think those would cause the problem.
