Owner's manual say anything?

By 1998 the 'filter' was really an inlet screen inside the tank. Not supposed to be changed on a normal schedule. I'm not sure what year they dropped the cartridge filter in the engine compartment.

Your other question in the almost-duplicat post...
I would expect filter plugging to cause problems at high-rpm & high-load. That's when the engine uses (by far) the most fuel. If it went away when you stepped on the gas it sounds like theopposite of what a plugged filter would do.

 

It's not in the maint schedule at all; the official statement is attached.
We always recommended the filter be changed at 90k service, and they usually had some good 'crud' in them by then.
