Default Fuel light issue, possible fix

Ok I know there have been lots of posts on here about the gas lights, but this one is about the 98-02 years. I want to know if there is a fix. I know the problem is my thermistor, I pulled the pump out and broke off the thermistor. I took it apart and was trying to find a fix but it was too far gone, when i got into the case pieces fell out. I may have found a fix but idk. Im thinking of using a switch from an extra water pump i have. Its a small box that contains a float and its own tank that you drain water into from a hose or small pipe. I took the switch out and tried it with a batery under water and it works fine but im a lil worried about leaving it in the tank with gas all the time in there. I looked online and at radio shak but cant find a thermistor to replace the oem one, and i had the switch laying around so its basically free. Has anyone found a fix? At this point I dont care about the light since the guage works fine, but I like everything to work on the car.

I guess I would just be careful in general about putting alternate electrical devices inside the fuel tank. Be very certain the contacts are rated OK for that lamp; it's probably 5watt or less.

But other than that, it looks like a good fix.
