Default Gas stopped early

I was fillin up today ($3.56/gal for plus) and it stopped before my tank was full. Is something wrong here? It needed about 11-12gal to be full and only got 8gal. I have filled up at that pump before and didn't have any problems.

probably made a bubble in the filler neck and the pump sensed gas, so it stopped ...... nothing to worry about.

So I should just keep pumping gas the next time it happens?

if the car's not full, yes. Let it turn off, then squeeze the handle and lock it like you did the first time ..... chances are it will fill it up the second time.

what are you using as a basis to determine how much fuel your car should take?

I think where sir_nasty is getting at is to not rely on your gas gauge.

Pay attention to your mileage as you drive to get a feeling of when you should be out of gas, and to determine how much you've used.

I go by the miles driven for that tank of gas. I usually drive 350 miles before a fill up and that usually is anywhere from 11-12gal. Had 340 miles so far on the tank before I went to fill it up but the pump stopped at 8gal. When I went to start the car the gas gauge needle was about half way between the full and 3/4 mark.

It is likely the pump. Even if you have used the same pump before, no pumps are perfect. I have been to several that will stop a bunch of times and I have to hold the lever instead of locking it. I think it has to do with the underground tank getting low on fuel or something.

LOL .... I stopped keeping track .... I usually get 280-285 miles per tank. I've seen 350 on road trips. The reason is that I drive 5 miles to a park and ride then bus it to NYC. Also, I warm the car up with my auto-starter. ....... and I like to have some fum with Grandma's Grocery Getter.
