Now at work, 2001 Accord 160K miles auto. Gear shift handle button popped out & handle came off while pulling into parking garage. I was able to re-assemble mechanism and put car in park - but then tried briefly to back shifter out of Park and no luck - It appears to be locked in Park.

QUESTION - Is there any reaon why I should NOT be able to get shifter into Reverse & then Drive so I can drive car to Dealer this PM - any thoughts?

Lost the screws #14? Missing the bushing #5? Maybe the handle isn't pushed down all the way. Or try pushing down on the center pin inside the shaft.

 

Jim - Thanks! You are 100% correct in that the #14 screws cam out. After some work I was able to bypass the locking mechanism and get the shifter out of Park and take it over to our local dealer. Cost $0.00
