Which generation Accord handles the best?
Hi All
I was wondering which generation Accord handles the best. I had previously owned a 4th generation Accord (Manual 1992 coupe LX) and found that it drove very similar to a 5th generation Prelude (Manual 2001).
I am currently looking into purchasing another Accord but would love to have it handle like a Mazda Miata.
I am looking for a car with a manual transmission. Also is there a big difference in handling when driving a "drive by wire" vs "drive by cable" clutch?

I dont think a stock accord will handle like a miata.
My TSX is drive by wire and I haven't noticed a difference in how it accelerates. I read about complaints about poor throttle response (a lag in response). This is something that you would have to figure out on a test drive.

As PAhonda says, no stock Accord will even come close to the handling of a Miata, and even when slammed down to the ground it would be virtually impossible to approach Miata handling and steering response.
Long story short, if you want a Honda which handles like a Miata, buy an S2000.

I'm thinking the older ones are smaller, lighter, & lower. But then they are also OLDER. As in worn out, corrosion, etc... Even a fine pristine example would need some work because the stock suspension is tuned for the sedan which it is.
And you're never going to change the fact that it is front-wheel drive (not with a mortal's budget anyway). If you need the doors & seats of a sedan, maybe an older BMW? But I have a feeling they're either real pricey or really worn-out.

From my experience, I felt my previous 95 Accord EX coupe, 4 cylinder handled the best, as it was smaller and felt more balanced on curvy roads. I had a friend who had a 95 EX V6 before, and the heavier engine made the car feel not as balanced as the 4 cylinder (they were essentially on the same chassis).
One of my sister's had the 4th gen Accord sedan at the same time I had my 5th gen Accord coupe, I felt my 5th gen Accord coupe handled better. Years later when I gave my 95 Accord to her son and she drove it, she even felt it was a very easy to drive car.
I felt my 95 Accord more easily and naturally took turns than my current 2009 Accord. However, everything is relative, as the 2009 Accord has VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist), more power, etc. I prefer my 2009 over my previous 95 Accord overall.
I had an 89 CRX Si before the Accords and that easily out-handled the Accords even in stock form. I later added full suspension mods and ultra high performance tires on the CRX and it handled even better; but, it came at a cost of a harsher ride.
Honda's drive-by-wire was a drive-by-wire throttle system, which was not related to the clutch. It wouldn't affect handling.
