Default Help with accord purchase

I am new to honda and have never owned one. I currently drive a diesel truck as my work/daily driver. I cannot get rid of it but I need something with better gas miliage because half of my driving doesn't require a truck. I found a 1999 accord LX coupe with 134,000 miles on it. It is a 5 speed. It looks to be in good shape from the pictures except for a somewhat big dent on the rear drivers side corner. The guy also says the check engine light is on. He is asking $2900. Can someone tell me what they think of this price and what I should maybe look for in that year if I go to test drive it. What were the problems of that year, how reliable is the 5 speed tranny. In the short amount of reading it seems that the auto isn't that great. Thanks, Joe

best advice i can give you is this..don';t buy the car till it is checked out.........Spend 70-80- dollars and have a shop that specializes on Hondas or the dealer ,do what is called a buyer's chk out ..
trust me , it will be the best 80 dollars that you will spend
