Help the new guy

Default Help the new guy

I have a 92 Honda accorda. Need help sitting the timing. Set my timing light on 15 and move the distributor until the red mark lines up. Is this right???? what rpm should the car idle at???? Thanks guys

It should idle at ~770 rpm. Did you short the service connector when you set the distributor timing? Were all of the electrical systems turned off?

What exactly is happening with your idle? Is it fluctuating? What rpm is the idle at right now?

The car is new to me.... The guy I got it from said he move the timing. The idle seem to be close to 770rpms... I was just trying to get some info before I set the timing. Yes I will use a jumper wire and turn ever thing off. I just want evething back to stock so it will pass emission. the car runs good as is but it fail emission. So I tuned it up and wanted to make sure the timing is right..

I thought the marks were already at 15-degrees-before, so therefore you set your timing light to ZERO. The marks should be set up to work with a timing light that doesn't have a dial-in-delay feature.

Jim I will go back change the timing again. I dialed the light in at 15 and set the timing, car now has great take off power and it didn't before. I will set the light to 0 and reset the timing. I'am new to honda cars so if you say the light to be at 0 thats what I will do.

Well, I'm more familiar with the later Hondas, where the timing marks are on the front pulley. There's a single mark right at TDC, then there's a group of 3 right where the timing belongs (15-deg before).

Not sure about yours which has the marks on the flywheel. Hope someone with a 90-92 will chime in.

Ok guys... I set the timing light to 0 and reset the timing, car ran great both ways...
