Default Help on noise from the wheel

Hi there,
I am new to this forum, and got a problem...

I have a 98 accord Ex.
While driving, I can hear a oscillating noise. The noise is like when you drive over the median reflecting markers or lane markers. The feel is not that bad though.
you can here it easily at speeds < 30 mph, it increases as the speed increases..
So I assume its something to do with the tire or wheel.
Its like something is brushing against something, and its on the wheel, as I can only hear it during tire rotations.....

I will be giving my car to a mechanic... but I dont want to get ripped off...

If anyone can help me that would be great.....
Thanks in advance

It's either brake issue, bent rim, out of balance rim, bad tire, wheel bearing, or cv axle (there are one or two other possibilities but can't think of them right now) . if you hear an oscillating noise (I assume this noise doesn't occur at idle) then I'm going to venture a guess at it being a brake issue (warped rotor, bad pads etc)

Depending on what you're calling an "oscillating noise", it sounds like it could also be unbalanced tires?

Thank you very much for you replies guys

Sir_Nasty,
Its definitely not the brakes, I have year old brakes, I had that problem of jerks while braking so I got the brakes surfaced, and the jerks are no longer a problem.

I'd be careful about throwing "definate's" out there ..... if you look at the break threads, you'll find that people on here have killed brakes in only a few months.

Especially the OEM brakes...

could you please revisit your original post, and maybe update it with a more descriptive paragraph about the oscillation?

If it feels like you're hitting a road reflector, but not as bad, then I'd have to lean towards CV, suspension, or bearing?

anyone else?

Also could be a damaged tire. Does the car shake at all when you hear the noise. On my 95, it would sake and make noise as well at certain speeds. When it got pretty bad, I got sick of it and decided to investigate. On the inside of the left rear tire, the rubber had shredded off and the steel was exposed. This created a huge bump on the tire. I'm lucky it didn't blow out on me.
