Default Help plz (Ignition Problem)

My girlfriends car is a 96 Honda accord and it just recently started having problems. The car will start every time i try but just as soon as i start it and release the key it will click and kill the car, but it i turn it over and hold it just enough to where the starter will stop turning over it will stay running?? Any advise on which part i might need to replace?

Your gf's 96 Accord ignition switch replacement will be the same as the 1997 Accord instructions:

driveaccord.net/PDF/ignition_switch.pdf

However, you do not have to drill out the shear bolts on the ignition switch body, you can just use a center punch and hammer to tap it at an angle, counterclockwise out. The link in my previous post also explains that. I've done it with a punch and hammer and it actually is faster than drilling and takes less than a minute to remove.

No problem. Btw, when I said takes less than a minute to remove, I meant the shear bolt and not the whole job. It's not difficult though, just take your time. I recommend downloading the Helms service manual from the links above in this forum.

In the common DIY threads on top of the gen tech help forum, there is a link to a thread about parts compatibility. Look up the part number(s) you need for your car and see what vehicles can donate. A hatchback part may not work on a 4-door. You will have to find the proper donor car that uses the same part number for your civic.
