Default HI gang

Hi all, didn't know this site till a few minutes ago.

Used to have a Civic for 10 years and I miss it very much

I got myself a second car recently - Accord Vtec sports Exc 2.0 petrol manual. Never had a chance to drive for more than a few minutes. it is always parked in the driveway. (I just like looking at it )

One thing that puzzles me is that the hose that go to the top of the radiator gets hard and pressurized as the car warms up. Never had a chance to run the car for more than say 10 minutes, so the radiator fun is always off. Is this normal for Vetc engine? Once the cooling fan starts will this hose get soften? any Ideas guys? thanks in advance.

The hoses will get hard as the anti-freeze temperature gets hot. The fan will run when it gets hotter. There's a normal operating range where the hoses are hard but the fan doesn't run. The temperature gauge will be a bit below 1/2.

As you drive, there's plenty of air going through the radiator so the fan isn't needed. If you're stuck in traffic or just let the engine run while parked, then the temperature gauge will rise above 1/2 - THEN the fans should come on. But it won't cool enough for the hose to get soft.

Hondas DON'T like to have air pockets in the cooling system. When the engine is cold, squeeze the radiator hoses. They should feel like they're filled with liquid and not sloshing with air & liquid.

To answer the question;
The water pump will build pressure to approx. 10-12 PSI, so the top hose will get firm.
Then when the engine warms and the T-stat opens pressure on that hose will reduce a little bit.
