so how do i make my own relay harness?
you are better off buying a relay with a harness at the hardware store. That's what I did for my airhorn install. Basically, the power that originally went to the headlights becomes the signal lead and the new power comes from the battery via the relay. Try the search in my signature to find threads that I've explained the specific pins on a universal relay. Unfortunately, I don't have them bookmarked or anything.

Go to Radio Shack and venture over to their drawers of electronic gizmos.

Huge picture warning!

10AWG wire is a bit overkill. But 16AWG or bigger will do the trick. You'll also need to get some ring terminals from the hardware store that will fit the standard 10mm bolt you'll find throughout the engine bay... the headlight bolt in the radiator support is a perfect example. Then you need terminals that will connect to the tabs on the relay, I forget what exact type they are. I got the weather tight ones, but it doesn't really matter.

You'll also need a wire stripper with the ability to crimp the terminals.

Soldering and heatshrink is optional, but it sure looks purty!

Where I tapped in for power (looks much cleaner than running them right off the battery):

To give you an idea of how beefy the relays are, you can clearly hear them click inside the car with the engine running.

I can make a wiring diagram for them in a few hours at lunch.

Regulars: have I ever posted these pics before?

I'm curious as to how you plug it into the HID harness. And how much did the parts cost you, as you can get a relay harness for $20 before shipping from ddm

More than $20 thats for sure, the wire is what got me because I have a ton left over.

The stock bulb plug was clipped and the leads were connected to the really to switch it and the connector was soldered to the power leads on the relay. So really, the HIDs are still plug'n'play, but they get their power elsewhere. And then, if a bulb goes out, I can just disconnect the ballast and plug in a good ol halogen bulb.
