Exclamation Horn honking randomly!?!?! Pretty much brand new car!

Hey guys so I have a 2013 Honda Accord Coupe LX which is about 6 months old and it just recently started honking randomly while I'm driving. There is no pattern to it at all. The only aftermarket thing I have done to it is installing "LED GLOW" interior lights, but that has been installed for about 5 months so I don't know why it would start acting up now. If anyone has any advise I would appreciate it. Thanks!

It could be a faulty horn relay (under hood fuse box), faulty horn switch (steering column), or damage cable reel in steering wheel (internal short to ground).

There is also a part called "control box" in the circuit diagram which is unexplained, perhaps part of security system interface.

You will need a shop manual to perform diagnostics, if you intend to diy. Check automanualsource.com for an inexpensive download manual.

good luck

The cable-reel sub-harness will probably have to be replaced. There was a Honda service bulletin 13-029. I already seen this on some other 2013 Accords.

The following is part of the service bulletin:

Horn Sounds By Itself; Driver’s Airbag Rattles

SYMPTOM
The horn sounds by itself, or there is a rattle coming
from the driver’s airbag.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
There are three possible causes. The cable reel
harness is not routed correctly, the horn harness has
shorted against the SRS module retainer, or the airbag
module is not centered.

It is covered under the normal warranty. Many dealerships won't have that sub-harness in stock and will have to order it; but, it is quick.

Thanks for the advice guys. And ya I just wanted to see if there was a quick fix that I could do on my own before I brought it in to the dealer because they would charge $115 to diagnose which I think is pretty stupid.

Wow, they charge a diagnosis fee for warranty work?
